Welcome to Acton Bridge Women's Institute

Report from Acton Bridge WI March 2017

Another well-attended meeting, including seven visitors, heard about the excellent Annual Council Meeting, and the warnings from Jennie Williams of the Northwest Region Cyber Crime Unit about cyber crime and how to protect oneself from it. This fits well with the speaker already planned for next month's meeting for Acton Bridge WI. Francis Illing will be talking about the current threats and challenges from i-phone porn and the current problems of children being "forced" into taking and sharing inappropriate photos of themselves, and how WI members can help their children and grandchildren. The meeting will be held as usual at 7.30pm in the Acton Bridge Parish Rooms on Tuesday 11 April.

Visitors are always welcome. Further details of all our activities can be found on the website at www.actonbridge.org.

This month, the President, Caroline Young, had welcomed Geoff Meggitt, who talked about the pioneering woman aviator and winner of the 1930 Kings Cup Air Race, Winifred Brown. There was much laughter when Geoff kindly drew the raffle and the winner of Jane Evans's lovely spring flower arrangement turned out to be one of our visitors, and Geoff's granddaughter!

Members also heard of a number of upcoming activities with the walking group, the book club and the craft group. The latter have already produced a number of "trauma teddies" for use by emergency services when comforting children caught up in accidents or emergencies. A fundraiser is being planned for June, and a new venue is being considered for the August outing. Further details will be announced shortly.
